The artifact for my final project is creating a Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tool that implements the five rights, known as principles. This tool is a computer-based program that analyzes within electronic health records (EHRs) and provides prompts to healthcare providers to implement evidence-based clinical guidelines at the point of care. My particular CDS tool focuses on utilization auditing and flagging medical items that are not medically necessary, leading to potential cost savings. This artifact demonstrates my learning in this course through Information Systems and Clinical Technology as well as Systems Design and Management outcomes. Through further creating a process map for a CDS tool and showcasing how it can effectively be integrated through the EHR for clinicians and case managers, I have demonstrated my understanding of key concepts such as making informed decisions and optimizing the utilization of CDS within healthcare settings. This artifact also contributes to my personal and professional goals by showcasing my expertise in implementing new technology within a healthcare organization. In addition, my involvement in this artifact has deepened my understanding of the importance of staying updated with current clinical guidelines to remain compliant. Likewise, this artifact helped with my professional goal of providing different insights at my current role in healthcare as a data analyst. I can see how evaluating the technological aspect within my organization can help with seeing the potential benefits and preparing for new technologies in the medical auditing industry. Overall, the business plan artifact serves as an understanding of financial management to real-world scenarios and learning how to effectively implement a new idea into action.
